Assisting retailers in developing better daily business practices is one of ComicsPRO’s chief missions. With that aim, ComicsPRO veteran retailers have offered their time to help new retailers, and new entrepreneurs interested in opening comic book stores, improve their operations by establishing good business practices from the start.
The ComicsPRO Mentoring program has been created for that purpose. ComicsPRO member retailers help new and prospective store owners as they open and start their stores. Participants are invited to the Mentoring program for a year when they make a donation to ComicsPRO of $79.
Mentoring program participants receive access to a private forum in which ComicsPRO members with decades of retail experience meet with new and would-be store owners to answer questions and give guidance about opening comic stores. As participants get close to opening their new stores, they can also be assigned one-on-one mentors to help answer more specific questions.
The forum access is unlimited. Mentor program participants are finding great value in simply reading all of the previous questions that have been posted, but participants are encouraged to add their own questions, share their details about setting up a new comics retail operation and get feedback from experienced retailers to learn what goes into making a successful opening of a comics specialty store.
The Mentoring program does not do the work for new and prospective store owners. Remember: owning a small business takes a great deal of dedication and hard work! But the program is beneficial in directing new stores toward successful ways of approaching comics retail.
When Mentoring program participants have signed leases for their new stores, they can upgrade to Full Membership in ComicsPRO. Any dues accrual will be credited toward their Full Member dues. That way, new retailers can have access to great ComicsPRO benefits, like a discounted credit card processing rate, before their stores are even open.
