COMMUNITY VS COMMODITY
In addition to LCSD exclusive variants, ComicsPRO is requesting value-added items like signed bookplates and product tie-in materials - book club materials, release party swag etc.

COOPERATIVE MARKETING
ComicsPRO is facilitating an industry wide social media push from retailers, publishers, and creators to increase awareness of LCSD. "Shop Local. Shop Nerdy. Local Comic Shop Day."

LCSD CATALOG
ComicsPRO will be sending out a catalog of LCSD offerings - exclusives, freebies, backlist sale information, and open order items. We believe this will significantly increase participation from the 2500 eligible retailers. See attached mockup.

EVENT MATERIALS
ComicsPRO is providing extensive materials to help participating retailers host community building events.    (Videos, pre-written press releases, signage and sale ideas, marketing assets, instructions for running kid-friendly scavenger hunts, and much much more).   Here's a sample video, for example, aimed at helping retailers invite creators to their stores.

New Logo for New Direction

The new logo, designed by Tim Daniel, writer and designer known for his work at Vault Comics and independent titles industry-wide spanning the last 20 years, reflects the idea of comic shops as a part of a neighborhood, while also invoking the small business feel.

 

“We asked Tim to redesign our logo to convey a change in direction for Local Comic Shop Day,” said Kate deNeveu, ComicsPRO Director of Operations.  “Retailers want the event to be a celebration of local comic shops and their place in the communities.    Our job at ComicsPRO is to bridge the gap and give participants the tools needed to run a truly successful community-building Local Comic Shop Day.  Tools like pre-written press releases, signage and sale ideas, marketing assets, instructions for running kid-friendly scavenger hunts, and much much more.  ComicsPRO’s greatest strength is the collective knowledge and experience of our members, and this year we’re putting it all to work.”

Non-Registered Storefronts don't pay a fee to participate.

They can:
  • Order any Print to Order product.
  • Participate in the Back List sales.
  • Use some of the downloadable marketing materials.
  • Use specially created digital assets.
Registered storefront pay a fee to ComicsPRO to participate.  ($30 for members, $50 for non-members)

We are hoping to register between 200 to 400 storefronts.  Publishers who provide exclusive items (either free or for sale) to these retailers, will get a list of their contact information.

Registered Storefronts can:

  • Order any Print to Order product.
  • Order any Limited Print product.
  • Participate in the Back List sales.
  • Use ALL of the downloadable marketing materials.
  • Use specially created digital assets
  • Join the #LCSD Discord made up of retailers, publishers, distributors, and other vendors.
  • Have their store on a map of registered storefronts which will be on localcomicshopday.com
  • Access specially negotiated deals with non-comics vendors.  (BCW, Ataboy, etc)
  • Order LCSD branded bags.
  • Get BONUS promotional items provided by publishers.
  • Be a part of our Facebook advertising push to customers who reside in the same zip code as their store.

GOLD

Your logo prominently on LCSD website and marketing materials.

$2,000 cost OR

Send out 200+ goodie boxes to registered store-fronts OR

Offer 1+ exclusive comic or graphic novel limited to our registered store-fronts.


BRONZE

Name of Company on website and some marketing materials.
Offer LCSD open order items.  Not just for registered retailers. OR

Backlist Sale, Discounted graphic novel pre-packs, etc OR

Send out Free Items for registered storefronts- bags, stickers, swag, signed bookplates, bookmarks, etc.

ASKING PUBLISHERS FOR

  • PRINT TO ORDER.  Print to Order/Open Order Items are offered to EVERYBODY. $100 fee per item for LCSD License. $300 for as many items as you want to offer.  (Waived for Publishers who submit 30 second creator videos highlighting item and mentioning Local Comic Shop Day® 2025)
  • LIMITED PRINT ITEMS. These items have a small print run. (500 to 1000 units). They are offered only to LCSD registered store fronts). NO FEE for LCSD licensing on exclusive items.
  • BACKLIST SALES.  Discounted items on backlist product.
  • FREE ITEMS:   Signed bookplates or bookmarks, posters, keychains, stickers, etc. self distributed or through Distributor.

  • June 23 - Registration of Retailer Begins
  • July 23 - Recommended FOC

Publishers who work with PRH


Kinds of Products PRH will distribute for LCSD:

  • Non-Exclusive open order items for all retailers with LCSD Logo
  • Backlist sales
  • Graphic Novel/Manga Pre-Packs
  • Free comics, Promo Items, & Party Packages (n.b. Separate delivery through Promotions Warehouse)


If you want to have a LCSD Exclusive Only available to registered stores, you must discuss this with PRH
directly as soon as possible. They do not have a system in place for auditing registered stores, but ComicsPRO is available to assist.  Maybe print 200 to 500 units of a comic and offer them free to registered storefronts through the Promotions Warehouse?

PRH will leave the FOC date in your hands since every publisher has different production timetables. PRH recommends a July 23 FOC Date.  Aim for a 9/24 On Sale Date.

  • You will need to reach out to your representative at PRH and let them know what you plan to provide. Please explicitly tell them if the items are free/not free.
  • Free items and promo material needs to be shipped to a separate warehouse.
  • LCSD titles would be a drop-in to the June catalog after it is initially released.

Publishers who work with Lunar



Kinds of Products Lunar will distribute for LCSD:
  • Exclusive limited items for registered retailers only.
  • Non-Exclusive open order items for ALL retailers with LCSD logo
  • Back List Sales
  • Graphic Novel/Manga Pre-Packs
  • Free comics, Promo Items, & Party Packages
Lunar will leave the FOC date in your hands since every publisher had different production timetables. For a 9/27 OSD, all products would need to be in the Lunar warehouse no later than 9/12 8 AM EST.
  • Items are fulfilled from the Lunar warehouse based on the OSD. Any items that arrive in the warehouse before then will be held until the week of the OSD fulfillment.

  • You will need to reach out to your Vendor Coordinator at Lunar and let them know what you plan to provide in the way of free promotional material if any for the event. 
(Generally, publishers will just need to provide the appropriate metadata for any LCSD items within the normal catalog schedule, and should be able to determine when they need to FOC any given item to make it to the Lunar warehouse by 9/12. )
